Calaveras pt. 3

The black one is made with glitter felt, but some of the glitter is starting to fall off. They should make it stick better. It has silver lamé backing and eyes. It's a gift and I thought these colors might suit the recipient better than one of the other ones.

Calaveras pt. 2

Another 8 hours of sewing under my belt.

I made 5 more sugar skull plushes, plus this last one. I decided to try my hand at something a little more complicated with this design. I still don't really know how to embroider, but it came out pretty well, I think! I can't even DRAW a rose, let alone embroider one without any sort of patter to follow, but it's at least somewhat recognizable.

Going to do at least 4 more today, but I only got 3 hours of sleep, so I should consider a nap. And housework.

11 Calaveras.

Also known as A Sure-Fire Method of Insuring Your Fingers Never Ever Work Again, Ever.

I spent the better part of 14 or so hours sewing these between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. I was originally going to sew 3-5, which turned into 10, which turned into an extra one (#11) for my sister who wanted to steal the first five I had completed.

MAIL from MEL!

I received this amazing package from the incredible Mel Stringer today. I told her the idea of making a zine intimidates me, so she sent me one of hers hoping it would inspire me. Mel's work ALWAYS inspires me, but hopefully with this added boost of confidence I'll be able to make one of my own.

Some of my favorite pages from her latest zine. I would highly recommend buying one for yourself!

Old Timer's Day.

The people in costume were absolutely my favorite part because they seemed so surreal and out-of-place walking around. I wanted to get shots of them that looked like they were everyday people.

I wanted to get more pictures of kids with their faces painted, but I was afraid of looking like a pedo taking pictures of little kids I don't know.

I'll make another post dedicated to the Outhouse Races after a while.

Great Scot, indeed!

My magazine came in the mail yesterday. What a lovely thing to have on the table next to my bed.

Today is a Doctor Who marathon leading up the the series 5 [BBC America] premiere with Matt Smith as The Doctor. I'm pretty sure I'm going to like Matt Smith, but I will certainly miss David Tennant.

Favorite Scottish Men of the Moment (in no particular order and off the top of my head): James McAcoy, David Tennant, Craig Ferguson, Paolo Nutini, Gordon Ramsay, John Barrowman.

Today is Old Timer's Day here in podunk. OUTHOUSE RACES are in less than 2 hours. Hopefully I'll get a few pictures for those of you who have never seen an outhouse race, and no, it's not people racing to a porta-potty, though I'm sure there will be plenty of that going on today.

It's also Record Store Day. Roswell is actually surprisingly participating so after the race we'll be attending to see if there's anything worth buying. Then tonight we'll be whipping up a peanut butter cake, then it's Doctor Who and The Graham Norton Show.

More crafting.

Someone said they'd pay me to make them a kitty finger puppet. I really don't think money is necessary, to be perfectly honest.

This is where I make my magic messes.

This sums up today.

Cinnamon dino-toast.

I love getting mail.

Especially mail with doodles and dinosaurs.

And the Steve Harrington dunny I ordered. So gorgeous.

I was hoping my Jame McAvoy Nylon Guys would be here today as well, but hopefully by Saturday.

Allons-y, Alonzo!

And I'm not remotely ashamed.

Well, okay. Maybe a LITTLE bit...but only of how terrible I am at embroidering! It's a...something case.

"It's bigger on the inside..."

Spent all day watching Doctor Who and then my evening painting this tiny little thing and a terracotta pot to plant my cacti in.
